Tallapoosa County School children got dressed, hopped on buses and headed back for the first day of school Tuesday. Some students were used to the routine while other students and parents struggled with the transition but school officials are thankful for a smooth start.
Some Kindergartners experienced their first ever day of school at Dadeville Elementary as a third of the students showed up for school, Wednesday. One third will show up Thursday followed by one third on Friday and the entire class will be in school on Monday morning.
DES Principal Joe Ross said there were some tears shed on the first day of school, however not many of the tears were from students.
“Its always parents who are more upset than the children,” said Ross. “They’re letting their babies go.”
Ross credits the open house for making the transition easier on the students.
“The students are all excited about school,” said Ross. “They are ready to go.”
Tallapoosa County Superintendent Ginger East said the transition was very smooth and the feedback from teachers about the first day of school was very positive.
“I thought it went great,” East said. “It seems to get better every year. I visited each school Tuesday and everybody was very positive.”
Dadeville High School had a very successful start, according to principal Dr. Chuck Ledbetter.
“One of the great things about this school is the students and faculty,” said Ledbetter. “As long as I stayed out of the way and let them do their thing, there were no problems.”
