Band sends out good vibrations

Published Wednesday, August 13, 2008

There actually is a place called Cocamo and starting Aug. 28 it will be located in Tiger Stadium at halftime.

The Dadeville High School marching band will perform a tribute to the Beach Boys during their halftime show this marching season. The show will consist of three classic songs “Cocamo,” “Barbara Ann” and “I Get Around.”

First year band director, Chapel McCullough said the songs were already in the band’s library of music and he thought it might be fun to bring them to life.

“It is very appropriate for a halftime show,” said McCullough. “It is crowd pleasing and really fun.”

McCullough said the band did well learning the show during the two week band camp at the end of July although he was hired as the new band director in mid-June.

“We had to hit the ground running this year,” said McCullough. “I was very pleased with the productivity during camp and the continued productivity through the first week of practice.”

McCullough said audiences could expect to see many colors to go along with the music during the show.

“It will be a very visually appealing show,” said McCullough. “There are a lot of bright colors associated with it to really bring out the beach and Caribbean feel.”

McCullough said there is more to this year’s marching season then a halftime show as he hopes to have some kind of pre-game show at some point during the season and perform in a couple competitions later on this season.

“I’m very confident based on how the students did in camp and the way they are practicing that its going to be a good season,” said McCullough. “The students seem to be having fun and that’s my main goal.”
