Drug bust nets 4

Published Wednesday, August 13, 2008

Authorities made four arrests Friday in connection with narcotics distribution in Camp Hill.

The Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force assisted by the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department, ABC Narcotics Division and the Camp Hill Police Department netted Carlos Patrick Tameika Hatcher, Martavis Webb and Quantavis Terell Leonard on two counts of possession, one count of paraphernalia, and one count of possession in the first degree. Patrick also known as Carlos Moss was also arrested on four warrants for distribution of a controlled substance. The bust recovered $6,165 in cash, five grams of powder cocaine, two small bags containing ecstasy and approximately 562 grams of marijuana plus items used to weigh and package narcotics for distribution.

According to Jay Turner, coordinator of the task force, the arrests were made while executing distribution arrest warrants on Patrick at an apartment in Camp Hill after the task force had made some controlled buys from Patrick through an informant.

“The marijuana was in plain view in the apartment when we executed the warrants,” said Turner. “We were able to get a search warrant for the residence from that.”

Turner said Patrick must have been doing a pretty good business in the area.

“(Patrick) was handling a lot of narcotics,” said Turner. “Usually if you get a lot of money in a bust, you don’t get a lot of drugs and if you get a lot of drugs you don’t usually get a lot of money. The fact that (Patrick) had a lot of money means he had sold a lot of drugs.”

Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett said he was glad to see one of the major drug suppliers in the county arrested.

“The task force has done an excellent job in making this arrest,” said Abbett. “They worked very hard gathering the information for this and it paid off.”

The four were transported to the Tallapoosa County Jail and are currently awaiting bond.
