Area has safe Fourth of July weekend

The Lake Martin area experienced a relatively safe Fourth of July weekend.

We thank our police and other public safety officials for working hard ahead of time to prepare for this weekend.

They prepared well and then did an excellent job enforcing the laws this weekend to ensure everyone was safe.

The only injuries over the weekend were due to lightning, and those were beyond the control of the public safety officials or those who were struck.

We also thank everyone who made safety a top priority for themselves and their families.

We hope this weekend will serve as an example for other weekends, especially holiday weekends, on Lake Martin.

The Fourth of July holiday seems to have been fun for everyone, and we applaud everyone for their efforts.
