Lake Martin area sending 19 swimmers to state competition

Published Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Nineteen Alexander City Torpedoes are headed for state competition after district competition in Valley last weekend.

Head coach Barrie Hamilton said she was pleased with her team’s effort, despite their sixth place finish.

“We were just a few points behind the next team up, and they had 70 kids swimming,” said the coach of the Torpedoes, which brought 29 swimmers to competition. “I saw a lot of improvement.”

Hamilton said swimmers enjoyed swimming at the indoor pool in Valley.

“It’s really nice,” Hamilton said. “You’ve got everything right there.”

The 19 qualifiers will start preparation for state competition immediately. The swimmers will practice twice daily until the tournament, which will be held July 25-26 in Scottsboro.
