Pam Holloway would have been looking forward to a new season as Dadeville High School’s girls’ basketball coach but she was promoted and made her way into the administration of the school.
However the search for a new coach for the Lady Tigers did not take long.
Dr. Chuck Ledbetter said Greg Shelton, a teacher and current coach at DHS was named the new coach of the girls’ team.
“I know the kind of person, coach and teacher he is,” said Ledbetter. “We are all really excited about our new coach.”
Ledbetter said Shelton brings wonderful credentials to the program having won a 1A State Championship with the girls’ basketball team of New Site High School in 1992.
“Whenever you have someone like Holloway move up to administration you worry about a drop off in the program,’ said Ledbetter. “We wanted to get it going at the level it was and I think we can do that with Shelton.”
Shelton is the current physics and chemistry teacher at DHS and is looking forward to his new role.
“I hope to bring a smooth transition,” Shelton said. “It’s a wonderful program and I hope to maintain that.”
Shelton is excited to start the new season and feels confident that he belongs coaching girls’ basketball.
“I’m ready to jump out of my skin and get started,” Shelton said. “I have really enjoyed coaching girls’ basketball, that’s where I belong. I feel real comfortable doing it.”
