Superintendent changes should be made in August

Published Wednesday, July 30, 2008

The transition between an incoming and outgoing superintendent must be made by January, but it can also be made earlier if both parties agree.

The Tallapoosa County School Board is working to make the position an appointed one instead of an elected one.

With this change, we encourage another change.

We would like to see the term of the new official begin in August, before school starts.

It is important that the best interest of the students is kept in mind.

We feel that switching superintendents halfway through the school year isn’t as effective as having the new superintendent take over before the school year starts.

When someone takes office in the middle of the year, they may need time to catch up. However, if they took office from the beginning, thet ransition would go smooth.

We encourage the school board to look at making this change.
