The Dadeville City Council has some upcoming changes planned as the city undergoes a changing of the guard at mayor.

New mayor Mike Ingram and the council hit the ground running at their meeting Monday night announcing several changes and planning more.

The council split on the hiring of a new city clerk, voting 3-2 to hire Sharon Harrelson. Council members Patricia Potts and Charles Hunt voted no on replacing current city clerk Ann Slay but Ingram said the decision was not personal.

“We just wanted a change at the position,” Ingram said. “We wanted to start fresh with a new administration.”

Ingram said the council will be looking into passing a budget before the end of the year as well.

“We’ve been trying to work with each department to try to put a realistic budget together,” Ingram said. “We want to set something in place before the first meeting in December.”

The council also discussed a possibility of a sign ordinance for the city in the near future. A move that many on the council would support.

“What opened my eyes about (a sign ordinance) is that we noticed several big (signs) pop up,” Richardson said. “If you go toward Opelika you can’t turn your head without seeing a sign. I don’t think we want to be known for that.”

Ingram agreed an ordinance might be a good idea.

“We are going to do some kind of ordinance that states as long as you’re within certain guidelines you’re fine,” Ingram said.

Dadeville attorney Robin Reynolds replaced Daine Sharpe as city attorney.
