Mothers, daughters hit the gridiron Monday

The relationship between a mother and daughter can hold a special place in the hearts of many but for those participating in a special football game Monday night, that relationship got down-right nasty.

Mothers from Dadeville suited up in full pads and helmets to take on female Dadeville High School students in the school’s first ever mother-daughter football game.

The “Big Mamas” defeated the “Delightful Daughters” by a final score of 20-18 but the most important aspect of the game was not the score.

DHS head football coach Richard White said the game was put together by the coaches to help support the football program. The event, which featured senior Tigers football players as coaches and freshman players as cheerleaders, raised approximately $1,200 for the football program.

“The money goes to offset costs of equipment, travel, pre-game meals and those sorts of things,” White said. “It’s good to see people help the football program.”

White said, for the most part, he was pleased with turnout for the event.

“We wished there had been more people but everyone who was there seemed to have a good time,” White said.

White said the game will most likely be back due to popular demand.

“We plan to do it again,” White said. “They want to more of these games in the spring.”
