Dadeville area schools spent some of the days last week honoring veterans in observance of Veterans Day.
Both Dadeville Elementary School and Dadeville High School held assemblies to honor all veterans in all branches of service.
DES held its Veterans Day assembly Thursday but honored area veterans by holding a reception in their honor and presenting them with refreshments and homemade cards.
“We had a great turnout,’ Tammy Farr, DES PTO secretary said. “We had a lot of veterans show up.”
As for the program itself, Farr believes it was very successful with over 25 veterans honored.
“The students really enjoyed it,” Farr said. “It’s a program where participation gets bigger year after year.”
DHS presented different stories of heroes of the different wars during its program Friday as the rest of the school and some area veterans watched.
“I hope we keep in mind that freedom isn’t free,” DHS principal Dr. Chuck Ledbetter told the students. “Freedom is paid for by the blood of patriots. We wouldn’t be free without the heroes we heard about to day.”
DHS teacher Margaret Caldwell, who helped to bring the program to life, said she hoped the program meant a lot to the students.
“I firmly believe in supporting the military,” Caldwell said. “They need to be honored for all they do for our country.”
