A Dadeville native was killed in an early-morning wreck Wednesday at an intersection in Dadeville.
Lt. David Barbour of the Dadeville Police Department said Dorothy Payne Hodge, age 50, was killed at the scene when a Crowley 18-wheeler truck collided with her 1990s-model white Chevrolet Lumina at the intersection of E. Lafayette Street and U.S. Highway 280. Barbour said the wreck occurred at approximately 6:25 a.m.
“The case is still under investigation at this point,” said Barbour.
Barbour said Payne was wearing a seatbelt and alcohol was not involved in the accident.
Hodge was the sister of Donald Payne of Payne’s Furniture in Dadeville.
“She was a good woman,” Payne said. “She was kind an sweet to everybody.”
Payne said Hodge worked at the post office in Jackson’s Gap until three years ago, when she transferred to the post office in Tallassee.
“She was a hard worker,” Payne said.
Payne said Hodge is survived by her husband Todd and three children, April, Christopher and Keisha Moe.
“She was dedicated to her family,” Payne said. “She tried to help anybody she could. She’d go out of her way to help anybody she could.”
