Members of the Jackson’s Gap Fire Department and the Peckerwood Rescue Squad have been busy all week preparing for the second annual Ole Timer’s Day.
Ole Timer’s Day will be held Saturday with the opening ceremonies beginning at 9 a.m.
“This is a way to bring back memories of yesterday and raise money at the same time,” Terry Newman, president of the Peckerwood Rescue Squad, said. “I hope everyone comes out and has a good time.”
Newman and others have been busy this week organizing the event.
”It died down for a long time but now we are trying to bring it back and make it better each year,” Newman said. “I think we have something for everyone to enjoy.”
Events will include vendors, a car show, a cake auction and live music throughout the day and into the night with a street dance that night.
The country store will be open and offer an assortment of homemade jellies, preserves and hand-sewn items.
A variety of food will be offered including barbecue, hotdogs, hamburgers, funnel cakes, homemade apple pies and much more.
Events for children will include hayrides, cake walks and a variety of games including darts and balloons.
There will be a number of guest speakers including J.D. Ayers, mayor of Jackson’s Gap; Betty Carol Graham, state representative; Sheriff Jimmy Abbett, Joe Paul Boone, Tallapoosa County Emergency Management Agency director; Frank Tapley, commissioner and others.
Proceeds from this event will go to the Jackson’s Gap Volunteer Fire Department and the Peckerwood Rescue Squad for general expenses and upkeep of equipment.
“We invite everyone to come out mingle with their friends and neighbors and have a good time,” Newman said. “We at the fire department and the rescue squad hope everyone comes out and enjoys the day. We very much appreciate everyone’s attendance.”
Vendor space is still available.
