Car show expected to draw crowd

Published Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Car enthusiasts will have a chance to show off their rides at the fourth annual Wind Creek Car Show, scheduled for Sept. 13.

“We usually have 180-200 cars,” said Randy Jinks, coordinator of the show.

The show will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wind Creek State Park.

Jinks said the most popular cars at the show are vintage, American-made cars.

“There’s a lot of old Fords,” he said.

Jinks said the show typically draws a big crowd and is great for all ages.

“After you get into the park you can go to the show or do whatever else you like,” he said.

Jinks said Wind Creek is a great place for the show.

“It’s a nice setting with the lake surrounding the area,” he said.

Two awards will be given out at this year’s show. One will be the Mayor’s Choice award. Alexander City Mayor Barbara Young will come to the show and choose her favorite car to receive the award.

The second is the Ella’s Choice award, chosen by Ella Gray of Mama Ella’s restaurant.

“She’s going to come and personally pick out the car she likes best,” Jinks said.

Other prizes will be given out, including door prizes and a $1,200 cash drawing.

Jinks said he is expecting a big crowd at the show this year.

“Last year we had the biggest crowd we’ve ever had,” he said. “A lot of people will come and camp for the week and stay in the Alexander City area for a few days.”

The pre-registration fee is $10 and $15 on the day of the show. Registration forms are available at Wind Creek State Park and on www.alapark.com. Those coming to see the cars must pay the park admission fee.
