A Roanoke man died Saturday in a single-car crash on Alabama 22.
Lawrence Sims, 65, was near the Daviston town limit when his 1991 Volvo ran off the road and crashed into a tree at about 1:35 p.m. Alabama state troopers have not determined the cause of the fatal accident.
“Troopers have an opinion but they are still looking into it,” said Sgt. Steve Jarrett, spokesman for the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
Sims was taken from the scene to Russell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
According to the crash report, the victim was not wearing a seat belt.
Between Wednesday and Sunday, the Thanksgiving holiday travel period, troopers investigated five additional fatal accidents in Alabama. The crashes occurred in Colbert, Limestone, Mobile and Jefferson counties.
Troopers investigated a total of 418 crashes during the same period, 28 of which are believed to be alcohol related.
Troopers also made 146 DUI arrests, wrote 3,532 speeding tickets, reported 943 seat belt violations and reported 76 child restraint violations over the holiday weekend.
