DHS girls go for 3-peat
Published Wednesday, February 3, 2010
The Dadeville girls basketball team has twice won close ball games with the Beulah Lady Bobcats.
Friday, the Lady Tigers (13-12) need to get by Beulah for the third time to keep their season alive. Greg Shelton’s team will begin the Class 3A, Area 7 tournament in LaFayette at 4 p.m.
Dadeville enters the tournament as winners of three of four games. After a 34-32 win over Loachapoka, DHS pulled out a 53-47 win at Holtville last Friday behind a strong outing from Rae Williams.
The freshman had 20 points and 17 rebounds in the victory.
“Rae is growing up a lot,” Shelton said. “She has a purpose when she gets the ball and is beginning to score. We’ve started looking for her more and have done a good job of feeding her the ball.”
Before closing the season out with a 36-34 win against Reeltown on Monday, Dadeville fell in close fashion to Benjamin Russell 45-38. The Lady Wildcats closed the game on an 11-2 run to pull away.
“They beat us by about 20 at home, so to turn around and have a chance to win against them in the fourth quarter says a lot,” Shelton said. “We’re beginning to show signs of progression.
“We only turned the ball over nine times against Holtville,” Shelton said. “We’re still not quite where we need to be handling the ball like we need to be, but I think you can see the improvement from the start of the season until now.”
Williams had 22 against BRHS (9-9). Shatoya Morgan added seven. Syneshia Hart scored 12 in the Holtville win.
If the Lady Tigers win, they’ll take on the LaFayette-B.B. Comer winner at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
