An organization is trying to create more friends for the Dadeville Public Library during the month of February.

The annual membership drive for Friends of the Library, an organization that assists the Dadeville Public Library, is underway and group leaders are hoping more residents in the area will join forces to help the library.

Friends of the Library president Jenny Windsor said the February membership drive is one of the two main fundraisers the group does each year.

“What we raise goes directly to the library,” Windsor said. “All donations are tax deductible since we are a non-profit organization. There are no paid employees in our organization. We’re strictly a volunteer group.”

Friends of the Library assists Dadeville librarian Amy Huff to help her go above and beyond what her budget allows for the library.

“Friends of the Library are a vital part of our library,” Huff said. “They help us sponsor program, speakers, book signings, after-school programs, summer reading programs and other events throughout the year.”

In addition to the membership drive, Windsor said the group also holds book sales from time to time. They also sell books in the basement of the library when it is not being used for a class.

“We’re trying to find ways to help make our library the best it can be,” Windsor said. “For the size of our library, I think we’ve got a great library here in Dadeville.”

Windsor should know because she’s a retired librarian from the Mobile Public Library.

“It’s a great library and there are a lot of retirees around the lake who are avid readers,” Windsor said. “Our library is a great asset them and for everyone in the Dadeville area. I’m glad we decided to retire here because we’ve got a great library.”
