ASCCA holds Valentine’s dinner and dance

Published Wednesday, February 17, 2010

More than 700 residents and supporters of Camp ASCCA showed off their best moves at Camp Civitan Saturday night while celebrating Valentine’s Day and helping raise money for the Jackson’s Gap organization.

Dana Rickman, director of marketing communications, said the camp raised about $25,000 during the event.

“Over $5,000 of the total amount was raised from the silent auction,” Rickman said. “The new ‘wine toss’ carnival-style game raised $500 and was a fun addition to the evening’s activities.”

The night began shortly after sunset Saturday in the Dadeville facility with steak dinners for all the guests provided by Piggly Wiggly and Laeman Butcher. During the meal and throughout the night, event organizers also conducted a silent auction for items from gift certificates to a wooden bench.

About an hour after the event began, GLOW took the stage and the audience crowded the dance floor during songs from the “Electric Slide” to “My Girl,” which brought one of the largest number of dancers.

“The dance was at capacity and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the band GLOW,” Rickman said.

Public relations director AllisonWetherbee said it was a great, fun event.

“We just want to thank everyone who sponsored the event and everyone who purchased tickets for the event,” she said. “This is a fun event and we hope everyone had a great time.”

Rickman said the proceeds will go to the Campership Fund, which helps children and adults with disabilities attend summer camp this year.

“Over 95 percent of our campers request partial or full sponsorship to attend each year,” Rickman said. “Thanks to everyone who donated and attended the dance. We look forward to next year’s 16th Annual Ina Watson Valentines Dinner and Dance.”
