What is this?
It’s not to be missed
Published Wednesday, February 17, 2010
More than 700 people attended the 15th annual Ina Watson Valentine’s Steak Dinner and Dance Saturday at Camp Civitan.
That’s quite an achievement – it’s hard to gather 700 people at any one place in Tallapoosa County unless there’s a major football game or Alan Jackson involved. Yet that’s how many turned out last weekend to celebrate Valentine’s Day while raising money for Camp ASCCA.
“We’re just so glad everyone came out and had a good time,” said Allison Wetherbee, the public relations director for the event. “We just want to thank everyone who sponsored the event and everyone who purchased tickets for the event.”
Camp ASCCA raised about $25,000 with the dance, which included ticket sales, about $5,000 raised by a silent auction and a new “wine toss” game that raised $500 for the charity organization.
Camp ASCCA – Alabama’s Special Camp for Children and Adults – is a nationally recognized leader in therapeutic recreation for people with both physical and mental disabilities. The fundraiser will provide opportunities for people with special needs to attend the camp and benefit from healthier, happier, longer and more productive lives as a result.
We offer our congratulations to Camp ASCCA on its success. And if you missed it this year, we’d suggest you go ahead and mark the 16th annual Valentine’s Dinner and Dance on next year’s calendar.
