What is this?
Let’s go Bears
Published Wednesday, March 3, 2010
Edward Bell claimed its first-ever state championship last week by winning the 1A boys basketball championship.
Even with the some of the best players in the state and top-level coaching, it’s very difficult to win a state championship title. But the Bears did it, thanks in large part to the magic of teamwork.
“It was just impressive to see the chemistry between the players and coach Mitch Joiner this season,” said Tallapoosa County Schools Superintendent Philip Baker.
“They really came together as a team. They were also so unselfish in the way they played. They were just a fun team to watch.”
Edward Bell’s star player Damien Carr was joined by able teammates Jamie Edwards, Cobe Bowens, Damias Holloway and Armis Holloway. Sophomore guard Eddie Webb only shot one basket in the championship game – the one that ended the overtime scoring at 66-65.
And the Bears who didn’t get on the court, as well as the Edward Bell faithful who traveled to Birmingham, played a large supporting role in this contest. The Bear fans gave Edward Bell a home-court advantage that no other team had in the Final 48.
Yes, it took a team to win the state championship title.
Years from now, those who played on this championship Edward Bell team, and all those who had a hand in this win, will remember that it was the team effort that allowed the Bears to rally from a 13-point deficit to achieve something all teams dream of and very few achieve.
Our congratulations go to the 14 members of the 2010 1A state basketball championship team, to principal Glenda Menniefee, coach Joiner, and the whole town of Camp Hill!
