Wearing her mother’s red evening gown and a look of stunned surprise, Alexander City native Summer Nicole Magouyrk was crowned Miss CACC 2010.

“It was definitely a surprise,” said the 2009 Benjamin Russell High School graduate as she wiped away tears shortly after receiving the news. “I wasn’t expecting anything.

“This is my mom’s dress,” she said of the gown she was wearing. “I dedicate this to her.”

The Central Alabama Community College freshman added that she couldn’t have achieved the pageant’s top spot without the help of her friends in the pageant, with whom she had formed “friendships and stronger bonds.”

“They definitely helped calm me down,” Magouyrk said. “They calmed my nerves.”

Magouyrk said she plans to either study secondary education or neurology and she called her first year in college “the best year of my life.”

“Coming from a big high school and going to an even bigger college, it was a good transition,” Magouyrk said. “Being in the (CACC) ambassador program has really helped me to adapt.

“I love it,” she added about CACC. “It’s different than high school.”

After CACC, Magouyrk said she would like to attend either Auburn University or Troy University.

The women modeled evening gowns, sportswear and even did a collaborative, Mardi-Gras themed opening number for three judges from Troy University.

The women were judge in the categories of: evening gown, sportswear and an interview portion referred to as exemplary. The interview portion carries the highest weight of any of the categories, according to pageant coordinator Elisha Smith.

“The pageant is scored on a 100-point scale and when you split it up exemplary is the most points,” Smith said. “It plays the strongest part.”

In addition to being crowned Miss CACC, Magouyrk took home the title of Miss Photogenic. Rachell Allysa Andrews was named Miss Congeniality, a prize given by fellow pageant competitors Brandy Smith was awarded Miss Exemplary in this year’s pageant.

Kristen Jones took home the titles of Miss Sportswear and Miss CACC second runner up. Lindy Joennings took home the titles of Miss Evening Gown and Miss CACC first runner up.
